What Is a Multiple Counter?

A multiple counter lets you track several counts simultaneously, each with its own name and value. Instead of switching between separate browser tabs or pages, you manage all your counters in one place — each incrementing and saving independently.

This page is designed specifically for multi-counter workflows. All counters are displayed in a list for easy scanning, and you can add as many as you need.

How to Use the Multiple Counter

Click + New Counter to create a counter. Each counter gets a default name that you can change by clicking on it. Use the + and buttons on each counter card to increment or decrement. The reset button on each card resets that individual counter to zero.

Renaming Counters

Click the counter's name to edit it inline. Type the new name and press Enter (or click elsewhere) to save. Give each counter a descriptive name for the thing you're tracking — "Boxes Opened", "Customers Served", "Laps Completed".

Deleting Counters

Click the × button on a counter card to delete it. All other counters are unaffected. If you accidentally delete a counter, you'll need to recreate it — there is no undo for deletion.

All Counts Are Auto-Saved

Every change is saved to your browser's local storage immediately. All your counters will still be there if you close the tab or restart your device.

Common Uses for a Multiple Counter

Inventory Counting by Category

Create one counter per item type (e.g., "Red Shirts", "Blue Shirts", "Large", "Medium"). Tap each counter as you physically count that item. When done, note the totals for your records.

Multi-Category Event Tallying

Count multiple types of people or events simultaneously — "Adults", "Children", "Staff" at an event. Each counter tracks its category independently.

Workout Tracking Across Exercises

Track multiple exercises in a single session without switching pages. One counter for push-ups, one for sit-ups, one for squats. See all your rep counts at a glance when the workout is done.

Research & Data Collection

Field researchers tracking multiple behavioral categories benefit from having all their counters on one screen. Each category gets its own counter, and the researcher can see the relative frequencies at a glance.

Multi-Step Process Counting

Track progress through multiple stages of a process: "Received", "In Progress", "Completed", "Rejected". Increment each stage counter as items move through your workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many counters can I create?

As many as you need. There is no hard limit — the only constraint is your browser's localStorage size, which is typically 5MB. Even very large numbers of counters would use only a tiny fraction of that.

Can I reset all counters at once?

Currently, you reset each counter individually using the reset button on its card. A "Reset All" feature is on our roadmap for a future update.

Are all counters saved independently?

Yes. Each counter saves its own count independently. Changing or deleting one counter does not affect any others.

Can I use keyboard shortcuts with multiple counters?

For keyboard-first operation across multiple counters, use the main counter page which has a dedicated active counter that receives all keyboard shortcuts.
